With the array of makeup out there that goes on before you start "painting" your face, you may wonder what the difference is in the myriad foundation formulas. Mineral, mousse, powder, stick, liquid...it can be confusing and frustrating to get the right formula for your unique skin's needs. Whatever you choose, it's best to get one with SPF to protect your face from the sun's harmful rays. It may not seem important if you're in your 20s, but as you age, your skin's quality depends on how healthy it is. If you're just running errands and don't need a lot of coverage, then go for a tinted moisturizer, which offers a little sheer color and covers mild imperfections. These are great for hot weather, when makeup tends to slide as we sweat. A liquid foundation is the next level of coverage, which may cover uneven pigmenting but probably not darker freckles; it can be layered for more coverage. Women with dry skin may want to avoid water-based liquid foundation because it doesn't deliver enough moisture to keep skin from getting flaky, particularly in winter months.
